Husband, wife killed in apparent murder-suicide, police say

The welfare check request came from a family member who had received information there had possibly been a domestic violence situation at the residence.

CLARK COUNTY, Indiana — A murder-suicide investigation is underway in Clark County, Indiana after a requested welfare check.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office was requested to check the welfare at a residence in the 5800 block of Harmony Woods Dr., Memphis, Indiana.  The request came from a family member who had received information there had possibly been a domestic violence situation at the residence, where a male subject, identified as Ronald Slaymaker, who had murdered his wife and was planning on taking his own life.  

Once officers arrived on the scene,  they were unable to make contact with anyone at the residence. Officer’s made entry into the residence, where they found Ronald Slaymaker and his wife, Amylyn Slaymaker deceased.   

WHAS11 News spent the day in Memphis and spoke to neighbors who had nothing but good things to say about Amylyn.

"Like I'm at a loss for words like I can't believe this happened to her. She was a wonderful neighbor. She was just the perfect neighbor. My heart hurts for kids because they're such good kids," said Shonna Neil, their next door neighbor. 

They were simply shocked this happened over night.

"Wow, wow. You don't think this happens this close to home. You never know what goes on behind closed doors...seven houses down," said another neighbor Tom Hill.

The investigation is still ongoing, initial evidence lead investigators to believe Ronald Slaymaker shot Amylyn Slaymaker with a single gunshot, where Ronald Slaymaker then committed suicide with a single gunshot. 

According to officials, there is no further information that can be released at this time, and there are pending results of a scheduled autopsy.
