HARDINSBURG, Ky. — Three people are dead after a head-on crash in Breckinridge County on Friday afternoon.
Around 3:30 p.m., Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 4 said they received a call from the sheriff’s office asking for help investigating a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of KY 86 and 690 in Custer.
Officers said the preliminary investigation showed that 59-year-old Charles Lucas was driving a Toyota pickup truck westbound on KY 86 when, for unknown reasons, he crossed into the path of a Ford Escape traveling eastbound. The Ford was being driven by 37-year-old Kenneth Smallwood.
Authorities said Lucas was taken to Baptist Health Hardin, where he later died from his injuries. Smallwood and a passenger in Lucas’ vehicle, 55-year-old Edna Lucas, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 3-year-old passenger in Smallwood’s vehicle was not injured.
A portion of KY 86 was closed for several hours so officials could clear the scene.
