Family of mother killed in drive-by beg for answers, justice

Thursday afternoon, Henderson's family said she told them she was going out for a few minutes to pay her LG&E bill and getting a ride with a friend. Less than a minute later, they said they heard gunshots outside their home.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS) -- A roadside memorial on Breckinridge Street near Ninth Street made of balloons, flowers and candles marks the spot where Na'Chan Henderson was killed Thursday afternoon. The 40-year-old mother of eight children died in a drive-by that also injured a man.

"She said, 'You only live once,' and that's what she did," Henderson's daughter, Demonica Malone, said. "She lived life to the fullest."

"She was filled with joy. We laughed together. We always talked together. She was my best friend," Delle Henderson, Na'Chan's sister, said. "She was a very good mother, did anything for her kids."

Thursday afternoon, Henderson's family said she told them she was going out for a few minutes to pay her LG&E bill and getting a ride with a friend. Less than a minute later, they said they heard gunshots outside their home.

"We heard a whole lot of gunshots," Malone said. "I started calling her phone and she wasn't answering. I started calling the person she was with and he wasn't answering. So we ran down here."

Saturday afternoon, Henderson's family and loved ones returned to Breckinridge Street to the memorial where she was killed. Police said Henderson and the man who was driving the white Chevy Impala were shot, the car crashing into a utility pole near Ninth Street. Police are still investigating the shooting and are not sure where the actual shooting took place.

Henderson's family said she was not the target of the shooting and was likely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"She wouldn't hurt a soul," Malone said. "She was not with all the violence. She wasn't into none of the drama, none of that."

"I just want whoever did it, just turn yourself in because they've hurt the whole family and just broke our hearts," Delle Henderson said. "She was very, very loved."

Henderson's family will be holding two fundraisers to raise money for funeral and burial expenses and also for her children.
