LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and community leaders announced plans for the 2019 Fourth of July celebrations Friday.
This year’s event will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, at Waterfront Park and will include free musical entertainment, family-friendly activities, an installation of 15,000 American flags and a Zambelli fireworks display from a barge on the Ohio River at 10 p.m.
The event will also have a beer garden sponsored by Yuengling, a bourbon bar and a wide range of festival food.
Fischer thanked the more than 20 local organizations that have helped sponsor this year’s event including WHAS11, which has sponsored the event for the past 20 years
Of course, you can’t celebrate Independence Day without fireworks and fire officials said the festival at Waterfront Park is the safest way to celebrate.
“Please leave the fireworks to the professionals,” Major Joe Williams of the Louisville Fire Department said. “Every year, anywhere from 11,000 to 13,000 injuries and over 16,000 fires are reported across the United States due to fireworks.”
Musical entertainment on the Fourth of July will include Zach Longoria Project, James Lindsey & Company, Joslyn and the Sweet Compression and the Spinsters Union of Louisville.
The event is free and open to the public.
