LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad will hold a briefing on Thursday to talk about specifics of the latest deadly shooting involving an LMPD officer.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said 42-year-old Isaac Jackson died from gunshot wounds he suffered on Wednesday night. The shooting happened in the 400 block of N. 42nd Street. Officers were called to the scene for a disturbance and found Jackson armed with multiple knives, according to police. Jackson attacked the officers, one was injured, police said. Another officer then fired at the suspect and he died.
Fischer tweeted on Thursday morning the city of Louisville has been dealing with several recent officer-involved shootings. He tweeted, “Each one had unique circumstances.”
Fischer went on to tweet that the recent events are prompting concerns and transparency is important to creating community trust and understanding.
While training on de-escalations and unconscious bias is already emphasized with LMPD officers, officers will be starting further de-escalation training by the end of 2018.
The mayor finished tweeting on the topic by saying every police shooting has a process to it and that means making sure policies and procedures are followed.
