(Louisville Business First) - Jeff Amrein thinks the goal of being the best and the biggest company in his industry is not so much a lofty dream as it is an attainable reality for his company.
Amrein is CEO of Extract Wellness LLC, an online hemp-products retailer based in Louisville that he founded earlier this year.
Because of the way the company was built and its early partnerships, he thinks Extract Wellness has the pieces in place to grow faster than other retailers in the hemp industry — all from an office on Bardstown Road in the Highlands.
"What was important for us is that we are trying to become the largest supplier of hemp products in the nation," said Amrein. "We did that in a calculated way by teaming up with a supplier that did what we were looking for."
Amrein considers himself a "serial entrepreneur," and he has headed up a few other Louisville startups in recent years including Academic Platforms LLC and Amber Platform Technologies LLC.
Amrein partnered with Commonwealth Extracts, a hemp-products manufacturer with a 130,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in east Louisville, to start building the business. Commonwealth extracts CBD oils, or hemp oil extract, from hemp plants.
Then the company hands off the products to Extract Wellness, which handles all of the sales and marketing of the hemp-oil extract and products made with the oil.
