LOUISVILLE, Ky. — José Alonzo is a multi-skilled journalist for WHAS11 News.
He joined the team in January 2024 and came from our sister station KYTX CBS19 in Tyler, Texas.
Jose is from south Texas and was raised in both Uvalde and Corpus Christi. Since he was a child Jose knew his personality was driving him into a social career. His parents knew right away he had a persistent curiosity as he would never stop asking them questions.
Jose’s love for cameras and writing soon blossomed into a deep hobby in high school.
He got his start in journalism at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi where he got involved in the journalism program and the student newspaper as an associate editor.
He continued his college journey at the University of North Texas in the DFW Metroplex where he graduated with a major in broadcast media. Jose gained experience with their student-led newscast North Texas Television where he and his team won a Lone Star Emmy for best college newscast in 2021.
This was his first step in bringing his print journalism skills to the television screen as a reporter and anchor.
As a new resident of Kentucky Jose is excited to live outside of the Lone Star State and explore the beauty of the surrounding culture.
No matter where he lives, he’ll continue to love the San Francisco 49ers, the San Antonio Spurs, and will be sure to always remember the Alamo.
Jose has a passion for community and raising awareness on issues that impact the public. He hopes to build trust with residents and embrace Kentuckiana as his new home.
