UNITED STATES, — The funk classic "September" written by Earth, Wind & Fire has endured since its release in 1978.

"Do you remember. The 21st night of September? Love was changin' the minds of pretenders. While chasin' the clouds away," lyrics.

Of course, the song was not meant to be just thought of on Sept. 21 but instead is a love song. There have also been disputes about why 21 was used. One of the songwriters, Maurice White, said he picked the date because of how it sounded but his wife his wife said the date was their son's birthday.

The group, started by three brothers from Chicago, other musicians and friends, has gone through ups and downs, most recently, in 2023, drummer Fred White died.

According to The Smithsonian, the picture used in this article was taken by Bruce Talamon, he wanted the group to look like superheroes.

"Shooting from a low angle, he photographed each of the musicians individually. And since this was well before the age of Photoshop, Talamon laboriously assembled the portraits to create a seamless composite image," stated The Smithsonian.

Either way, here we are in 2024 enjoying the song. In 2018, it was added to the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry list of culturally, historically, or aesthetically important recordings.

So, turn it on, and whether you're in your living room, car or the dance floor... keep dancing in September and keep your souls singing.

Lyrics:

Do you remember
The 21st night of September?
Love was changin' the minds of pretenders
While chasin' the clouds away

Our hearts were ringin'
In the key that our souls were singin'
As we danced in the night, remember
How the stars stole the night away, oh, yeah

Hey, hey, hey
Ba-dee-ya, say, do you remember?
Ba-dee-ya, dancin' in September
Ba-dee-ya, never was a cloudy day

Ba-du-da, ba-du-da, ba-du-da, ba-du
Ba-du-da, ba-du, ba-du-da, ba-du
Ba-du-da, ba-du, ba-du-da

My thoughts are with you
Holdin' hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love, remember
How we knew love was here to stay

Now December
Found the love that we shared in September
Only blue talk and love, remember
The true love we share today

Hey, hey, hey
Ba-dee-ya, say, do you remember?
Ba-dee-ya, dancin' in September
Ba-dee-ya, never was a cloudy day
There was a
Ba-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), say, do you remember?
Ba-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), dancin' in September
Ba-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), golden dreams were shiny days

The bell was ringin', oh, oh
Our souls were singin'
Do you remember never a cloudy day? Yow

There was a
Ba-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), say, do you remember?
Ba-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), dancin' in September
Ba-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), never was a cloudy day
And we'll say
Ba-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), say, do you remember?
Ba-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), dancin' in September
Ba-dee-ya (dee ya, dee-ya), golden dreams were shiny days

Ba-dee-ya, dee-ya, dee-ya
Ba-dee-ya, dee-ya, dee-ya
Ba-dee-ya, dee-ya, dee-ya, dee-ya!
Ba-dee-ya, dee-ya, dee-ya
Ba-dee-ya, dee-ya, dee-ya
