LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One of the Kentucky Derby season's most famous galas, the Barnstable Brown Derby-eve Gala, has been canceled for 2020 amid COVID-19 concerns. Patricia Barnstable Brown, cofounder of the Barnstable Brown Foundation, said it would be impossible to hold a large gala of their standards during a pandemic.
Barnstable Brown said they are looking forward to hosting the exciting, celebrity-filled gala in 2021. The gala, known for its musical extravaganza, raises and donates millions of dollars to the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center at the University of Kentucky.
"Our foremost goal is raising funds for the health and well being of our community and look forward to breaking our fundraising records in 2021 for the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center," Barnstable Brown said in a statement sent to WHAS.
The gala's cancelation comes after Churchill Downs announced it will allow some spectators at the Kentucky Derby on September 5.
