Louder Than Life will continue despite Hurricane Helene's incoming downpour

For the first time in 10 years concert goers have access in and out of the festival for shelter or to change outfits if they get soaked.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The four day musical in Louisville, Louder Than Life (LTL), kicked off with some cool temperatures and a cloudy sky. As the fairgrounds expect about 190,000 people, they've planned for the heavy wind and rain to keep concert goers safe.

As day one kicked off there was no rain ponchos in sight. Festival goers came out in rock band shirts and unique outfits. The chance for late showers didn't seem to be stressing anyone out.

Concert goers are coming from all over the country for a weekend full of rock and roll.

"We were here last year," said a Mississippi resident. "We bought our tickets while we were leaving here last year."

With a rainy weekend ahead, it doesn't seem to be bothering too many people.

"Day one we're here and ready for the rain," said Indiana resident Wade Correli. "It's supposed to be raining today but the metal gods have called upon us. They've given us a dry day today. But I don't know about the rest of the weekend."

Festival producers are taking steps to keep everyone safe.

"Right now it's looking like rain which is what we were built for," said Chamie McCurly with LTL. "The reason we moved to these festival grounds is because it can handle rain. We've been working with several different agencies this week to add in some new drainage. As well as some reinforcements for some of our portable structures."

Some festival attendees said they either have a poncho on standby or are ready to head back to their hotel for shelter.

Weekend pass holders said they are prepared to be drenched.

"Nah, I'm not worried I got my whole rain suit before I left," said Ryan Edwards, a Detroit, Michigan resident. "I got a jacket and it did come with pants. So I might whip it out if it starts pouring tonight. But I heard it's supposed to be back Friday and Saturday so I might be rocking a rain suit."

For the first time in LTL's 10 year span the festival will allow in and out access from the gates. This will give concert goers access to their car for shelter or to change.
