LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Have you ever wanted to go to a performance from a Grammy-winning group? Well now you can do so for free.
For three days, the Louisville Orchestra (LO) will be performing it's free concert series, "Music without Borders: Rhythm and Song."
According to a news release, the series brings both classical and recognizable music to the community.
Performance Schedule:
- Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. - The Jeffersonian
- Friday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. - St Vincent DePaul Family Success Center
- Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. - California Community Center
Not only will guests get the musical experience, but there will be hands-on activities, like instrument-making and coloring sheets. Refreshments will be provided after the performances so musicians and guests can mingle and talk about the performance.
"I think there are a lot of barriers to classical music," James Seymour, the principal trombone in the Louisville Orchestra, said. "People see our suits -- tuxes, occasionally. Sometimes cost-prohibitive. And these concerts are free and you can wearing whatever you want. It's in your community, it's in your backyard."
Audience members will also have a chance to win free tickets to one of four different Louisville Orchestra performances, including:
- "Voices Shouting Out," composed by LO's Creators Corps member Nkeiru Okoye
- "Canyons," composed by LO's Creators Corps member Tanner Porter
- "Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra," composed by John Williams
- Symphony No. 4 in A major, Op. 90 "Italian" by Mendelssohn
Even though the performance is free, guests are still required to RSVP. For the St. Vincent De Paul Family Success Center show, click here, and for the California Community Center, click here.
