LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky native and singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson is making his return to music this year with a new tour, new album...and a new name.

He's marking the beginning of a new era with Johnny Blue Skies.

Since his debut, Simpson has released five full-length studio albums. He promised to release only five albums under his own name, and now is the shift with his latest album, Passage Du Desir

"The new album follows the tenth anniversary reissue of Simpson’s Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, which came out last month," according to a news release said.

The album will have a total of eight songs and be released through Simpson's own independent label, High Mountain Top Records, on July 12.

Simpson and his band — consisting of Kevin Black (bass), Robbie Crowell (keys), Laur Joamets (guitar) and Miles Miller (drums) — will return to the road for the “Why Not? tour” this fall. This will be Simpson's first full tour in over four years.

And one of their stops is Lexington! The tour is headed to Rupp Arena on September 27, 2024, and the concert will start at 8 p.m.

The 28-city tour will also includes stops at L.A.’s The Greek Theatre and Washington State’s The Gorge Amphitheatre.
