LOUISVILLE, Ky. — FOX Sports play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson's Michigan ties are well-known, but during Wednesday's Holiday Bowl, he surprised many viewers by detailing his Louisville roots.
Johnson took a moment the end of the first quarter between Louisville and USC to talk about his time in the Derby City.
"Joel, I spent a lot of time in Louisville growing up," Johnson said. "My dad is from Louisville. 14th and Walnut. And my whole family lived in a place called Beecher Terrace."
His broadcast partner Joel Klatt went on to say Louisville is a "proud place."
