LOUISVILLE, Ky. — You know Derek Hough as one of the judges for ABC'S "Dancing with the Stars." But for this weekend only, he will be in Louisville with his production "Symphony of Dance."
The production will be at the Louisville Palace on Nov. 18, and it starts at 7 p.m.
"It's like a rock concert," Hough said. "What I love is seeing people afterwards, and then talk about the heart of the show and how they were very, you know, they weren't expecting to be emotional and to cry or to feel something.”
He added it's something the whole family can enjoy.
“A lot of people who come you know, who like, drag their husbands or something, you know, that'd be their husbands were like, listen, I, I didn't really, I just came because my wife came but, but they're like, that was one of the best things I've seen,” Hough said.
And after 17 seasons on Dancing with the Stars, Hough understands the pressure and regime when it comes to rehearsing.
“For me, I just have the most admiration for any celebrity, that's crazy enough to come on the show to put themselves out there," Hough said. "And then on that floor, and to put themselves in that vulnerable, vulnerable position, which is why I try to be as encouraging as I possibly can.”
But he wishes he could spend more time with them.
“You know, if I'm honest with you, I wish I had 20 minutes with each person because I have so many things I want to say and you know, being a coach and being a teacher, I have so many things I want to share with them," Hough said. "But unfortunately, I only have about 15 seconds."
He says this is a privilege that he doesn't take for granted when it comes to his career, saying “I just adore the show. And I love it. I love it.”
Part of Symphony of Dance is actually a tribute to the late Len Goodman, a former judge and professional ballroom dancer. He died from prostate cancer in April.
“You know, when I was putting together my tour, actually, it was the first thing that came to my mind that I wanted to create, for the show, to share with people, was a tribute to Len," Hough said. "And so I found a song, Moon River, because I remember talking to Len, and he told me how much he loved that song.”
