Kentucky and Indiana bars fight for golden skillet, raise money for nonprofit

The Alcove Bar in Jeffersonville launched the competition in 2023, and it grew this year to include Louisville bars.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It might be the newest sports craze: skillet curling. And it's exactly what it sounds like.

Bar staff at 16 places in Kentucky and southern Indiana faced off on the ice Monday, curling with cast iron skillets for the top prize: a golden skillet.

All of it is to raise money for Apron Inc., a nonprofit that helps support businesses in crisis.

The Alcove Bar in Jeffersonville launched the competition in 2023, and it grew this year to include Louisville bars.

"Apron is really the perfect benefactor for this event," Paristown Hall spokesperson Jeanne Hilt said. "One hundred percent participation fees, silent auction, Titos is out here donating a dollar of ever Tito vodka drink sold. So they're gonna make some money. It's really the industry helping their own right here."

Some of the participating bars included Alcove, Pints and Union, O'Sheas and more.

WHAS11 News was told it was a tough battle, but Hauck's won the golden skillet this year to proudly display in their bar all year long.
