Louisville church partners with nonprofits to host accessible vacation bible school

Burnett Avenue Baptist Church in Highview will host a vacation bible school for children with learning differences every night until Friday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Vacation bible school is a summer tradition for many families, and one Louisville church is working to make it accessible to all children.

Burnett Avenue Baptist Church in Highview will host a vacation bible school for children with learning differences every night until Friday.

About 50 volunteers helped with crafts, music and stories.

It was open to the entire community, and aims to celebrate inclusion and compassion.

"Any opportunity to go into the community and participate in events that their peers are able to participate in is always a great opportunity to teach socialization and to bring awareness to the community in general," Margaret Howard with the Bluegrass Center for Autism said.

The church partnered with the Bluegrass Center for Autism, as well as Families for Early Autism Treatment (FEAT), Dreams with Wings and AMPED Louisville.

They hope to make it an annual event.
