LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Frazier History Museum honored famed historian Tom Owen Tuesday evening.
The museum partnered with the Kentucky Humanities Council for the sold-out event.
"Tom has given us the gift of a role model of how to live life fully and, well, we are forever grateful. Gonna be big boots to follow. So Tom, we wish you and all of your family good health and days filled with joyful contentment. Thank you," documentary producer Morgan Atkinson said.
The event featured special tributes, a pop quiz and stories from Owen himself.
He has given tours and talks -- teaching thousands of people about Louisville with care and enthusiasm for decades.
"People appreciate what I do and I think the key has been, and it's a pure gift, a pure gift, I love anyone's story and everyone's story. You don't have to be a prince or a potentate to be interesting to me," Owen said. "It is what happened in the human condition, and that's what excites me across the board."
He said he isn't retiring just yet; his latest job was as a full-time archivist with the University of Louisville.
