For nearly three decades, WHAS-TV has been honoring local educators with the ExCEL Awards. The annual award stands for Excellence in Classroom and Educational Leadership, and recognizes teachers from all over Kentuckiana that go the extra mile to make a difference in student’s lives. WHAS’ own Gary Roedemeier has been involved with the ExCEL Awards since the beginning, and he recently traveled to area school districts to present each winning teacher with the famous gold apple, as well as $1,000 from LG&E KU to use for school purchases. Gary and several of the award recipients joined us for an “Excelebration Breakfast” to talk about what the special recognition has meant to them. Our featured 2017-2018 ExCEL Award winning teacher is Charmaine Corrie, who brought her famous pumpkin roll.
