October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the kickoff to the Purple Purse Challenge. It’s a peer-to-peer fundraising program bringing awareness to the issue of financial abuse, which is a major factor that traps people in abusive relationships. Elizabeth Wessels-Martin, President & CEO of The Center for Women and Families, and a former client Kiana White, who was helped by the programs, stopped by Great Day Live to talk about the Purple Purse Challenge. Over 3 years, The Center has raised and won $173, 046 used toward the services provided to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Tennis champion Serena Williams is again the spokesperson for Purple Purse Challenge, and she designed the Purple Purse. The challenge kicked off at 12 PM October 2, 2018 and goes through October 31, 2018 at 1:59:59 PM.
