The Louisville community is in mourning after losing the man who was the face of Churchill Downs for decades, and a great friend to many. Family members are working out details of a memorial service for John Asher after he died of a sudden heart attack on Monday while on vacation with his family.
Asher was the spokesperson for horse racing in Louisville for the last 21 years and before that, he was a WHAS radio reporter.
Retired jockey Donna Brothers was a friend and coworker of John Asher and so was Karl Schmitt of the Louisville Sports Commission, who formerly worked at Churchill Downs. The two stopped by GDL to share some of their fondest memories and talk about what they will miss the most after losing Asher.
