'This is a city of Louisville issue': 'Shoot Balls Not Guns' works to combat youth crime in Louisville

"If you give our kids something to do, positive, they will do it," founder Will Pitts said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A new nonprofit is dribbling around Louisville, and it's working to keep kids from getting involved in violence.

"Shoot Balls Not Guns" set up at the Southwick Community Center in the Park DuValle neighborhood Tuesday.

"This means the most to me, because just even dealing with conflict resolution, where these kids would normally not even know each other, may even get into skirmishes with each other. But now they can say 'oh no, that's, you know, the guy from the camp,'" founder Will Pitts said.

The coaching, meals and uniforms were all paid for out of pocket. Pitts and his wife own a childcare center called MooMoo's Child Enrichment Center.

They've used the profits to fund a non-profit called Willenium Enterprise Foundation - helping with expungement, credit restoration, childcare and now Shoot Balls Not Guns.

"If you give our kids something to do, positive, they will do it," Pitts said. "This is not a West End issue, a south Louisville issue, this is a city of Louisville issue."
