LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A dog thrown from a moving car on a Kentucky highway is getting a second chance at life.

The 3-year-old Cattle Dog mix was originally taken to Louisville Metro Animal Services by someone who witnessed her being thrown from the vehicle. The dog now known as Morticia Addams arrived last week at the Kentucky Humane Society's Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center.

The dog suffered a severe break and degloving injury to her back left leg when she hit the pavement. The injury left her in extreme pain and in need of immediate care.

The KHS veterinary team determined an emergency amputation was the best way to guarantee a full recovery.

Morticia Addams' surgery was successful, however she is now recovering from an upper respiratory infection. Once that clears up, she will be available for adoption.

"We are glad she came to us when she did so that we could help her during such a vulnerable time of her life," KHS spokeswoman Andrea Mattingly said.

The KHS depends on donations for live-saving procedures. If you would like to donate, click here.

If you would like more information about adoption, you can call the shelter at 502-515-3145. The Kentucky Humane Society is located at 1000 Lyndon Lane Suite B in Louisville.
