Bernheim Forest researchers hold Hermes, a golden eagle that visited Kentucky back in February 2024.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After tallying up the votes, the folks at the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest have officially tagged and named the third golden eagle that has visited the forest.

Say hello to Hermes!

Bernheim officials said more than 1,000 people participated, and the name Hermes just beat the name "Beckham" by a margin.

Hermes is known as the "messenger of the gods" in Greek mythology.

Researchers put a GPS tracker on Hermes back in February, and they've tracked him all the way up to Canada. Officials said he's traveling between there and the United States along Lake Huron's north shore.

This is the third golden eagle Bernheim Forest researchers have started tracking.
