Two Louisville animal shelters waiving adoption fees for adult cats and dogs this July

All adoption fees will be waived for dogs and cats 1 year old and older for the rest of July.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) and Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) announced Monday they will be waiving adoption fees for adult dogs and cats for the rest of July.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation's "Empty the Shelters" event covers adoptions fees for cats and dogs 1 year old or older at KHS and LMAS from July 22 to 31.

“Like animal shelters all over the country, KHS is battling increased intakes and decreased adoption numbers. We are so thankful for the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s generosity, and hope that waived adoption fees for our adult animals will make finding your new best friend even easier and more affordable,” Sara Rehfeld, shelter operations director at KHS, said.

If you're interested in adopting a furry friend, you're encouraged to visit the KHS Main Campus, the KHS East Campus or Animal House.

Adoptions at KHS are processed between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. Extended adoption hours are offered on Thursday at the KHS Maine Campus, with adoptions processed until 6:30 p.m.

Animal House on Newburg Road is open every day from noon to 6 p.m. On Fridays, the shelter stays open until 7 p.m.

All pets adopted from KHS come with 30 days of MetLife Pet Insurance and have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and given flea and tick preventatives, all of which are valued at more than $300.

Adoption is pending approval of an application process that usually takes an hour or less. Adopters located in Jefferson County are responsible for a $10.50 licensing fee.
