Potty-mouthed parrot named Pepper finds new home

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Niagara SPCA introduced Pepper, a potty-mouthed parrot, to the world last month.

That one, fun social media post led to over 400 inquiries about Pepper, and a ton of vetting, as the animal shelter attempted to find a new home for the bird.

Pepper now has one.

"Pepper found his sanctuary in a local Olean home with a an African Grey parrot named Shelby, who makes Pepper look like a saint," Niagara SPCA said this past weekend.

Whether Pepper would stay in Western New York wasn't necessarily a given. People from across the county reached out to ask about the parrot, and some of them interviewed the Niagara SPCA when it narrowed the field to 10 finalists.

Pepper was officially adopted Thursday morning by his adopters, Tiffany and Tim.

"They report Pepper is settling in nicely. He hasn't cursed at them just yet, but we know it's coming. He loves his veggies and always greets his adopters when they walk in the room," Niagara SPCA said.

Niagara SPCA was happy to report that Pepper's parents love birds, know how to care for them, and that they would not be troubled by his colorful language.

The animal shelter had previously said people far and wide asked about bringing Pepper into their homes, including "Wild Bill who owns a saloon in San Antonio, and the ex-Navy sailor whose language is a match for Pepper's."

Before moving to Olean, Pepper met with avian vet for a routine exam, and to trim his nails and beak.
