Hooch the two-year-old boxer-mix is looking for an adventurous family to call his own

This week’s WHAS11 Shelter Star is a two-year-old boxer mix named Hooch, who is full of energy and loves to cuddle.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Every week, WHAS11 features an at-risk dog from Louisville Metro Animal Services. These are dogs that have been without a home for way too long and for no reason. This week’s Shelter Star is 60-pound lap dog who loves to run and play just as much as he loves to snuggle.

"Hooch is a very playful, loving boy. He really enjoys snuggling with you. He leans in with his whole body. He really loves to run and has really cute zoomies, loves to play tug of war and he will destroy a rope toy and he will keep bringing it back to you,” Jessica Beard, who is fostering Hooch, said.

Hooch is looking for a family that can keep up with his fast-paced play and then offer up a lap to cuddle up in on the couch. "He also is a lap dog. He may be 60 lbs. but he wants to be on you,” Beard said.

Beard and her husband have been fostering Hooch for more than 6 months. They decided to take him into their home after noticing he wasn’t doing well in the shelter... he was stressed, sad and deteriorating quickly.

"His personality wasn't shining here, once we got him home and he was able to decompress, his true personality was able to shine for those potential adopters,” Beard explained.

Beard describes Hooch as very energetic and said he loves to run and play with toys. He does know some basic commands and is treat motivated, meaning he is ready to learn more. He does great with other dogs. He is also willing to sleep in a kennel, if that's what best for your family.

"I think his perfect family would be people that love going outdoors, going hiking, camping, running, he loves to run,” Beard said.

So, let Hooch run into your home and your heart. He is available for adoption right now!

The best way to meet Hooch is to contact the foster coordinator at Metro Animals Services. You can email the team at MASfoster@louisville.ky.gov

If now isn't the right time to bring another animal into your home, here's two other ways to help alleviate overcrowding at the shelter:

  1. Find Louisville Metro Animals Services on social media and share the organization's posts. This could include pictures of adoptable pets, current needs at the shelter, or volunteer opportunities.
  2. Become a shelter pet advocate. Pick a dog at the shelter and become their champion. This could include visits at the shelter, walks, making fliers to share on social media or even just giving them affection while they wait for their forever family.

Shay McAlister will be introducing you to a new dog every week in our WHAS Shelter Stars series. You can watch on WHAS11 at 4 p.m. every Thursday.
