LMAS staff calls it her birthday wish for her favorite dog at the shelter to finally find a home

He is small in stature, a little bit shy with humans, but absolutely thrives around other animals. Meet this week’s WHAS11 Shelter Star ‘Bacon Pancake’.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Every week WHAS11 introduces you to an at-risk dog up for adoption at Metro Animal Services. These are dogs whose future might be at risk should the shelter have to make tough decisions due to overcrowding.

This week, our featured dog is Bacon Pancake. He’s a two-year-old with puppy-dog eyes and a huge heart.

"It takes him a little bit to warm up to people. But if you give it a few minutes, he'll come around. He's just had a hard past,” LMAS staff member Jacqueline Beyers said.

He is her favorite dog right now because of his sweet demeanor. "I think he's a little ray of sunshine honestly. As soon as he walks in a room."

The two-year-old beagle mix has been at the shelter for a few months. His energy is considered low or moderate because he doesn't need big walks or adventures and is happy to cuddle up in your lap. He is house trained and knows basic commands. He also does great on a leash.

When it comes to other dogs, staff report not only does he love them, but he also thrives off the company.

Beyers explained, ‘"I think it’s really sweet to watch him with other dogs because that's where he really shines the most- when he's with other dogs."

Beyers celebrated a birthday this week, and said his adoption is her biggest wish. She knows he would do great in a home with a family and is hoping the right one sees this story and gives him a chance.

You can meet Bacon Pancake right now at Animal House on Newburg Road. The adoption center is open every day of the week from noon until 6 p.m.
