Here's how you can help name the baby giraffe at the Louisville Zoo

The male Masai giraffe is the first one born at the zoo in the last 12 years.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Zoo wants your help naming its newest addition to the Giraffe House.

The zoo welcomed a male Masai giraffe calf into the world on Aug. 9. He's the first giraffe born at the zoo in the last 12 years.

They have selected three potential names for the calf. They are:

  • Tana
  • Nyasi
  • Mdogo

The zoo said Tana is the name of the longest river in Kenya, and both Nyasi and Mdogo are Swahili words. Nyasi translates to "grass" and mdogo means "little" or "young."

The voting portal is open until Sept. 16 at 11 p.m. You can vote here.

The calf's parents are 7-year-old Kianga and 8-year-old Baridi according to the zoo.

You can also watch the family bond through the zoo's giraffe camera here.
