Chefs to gather for annual 'A Taste for Life' event in Louisville

Tickets are $50 and all proceeds will go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Louisville and the Pete Foundation.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Five years ago, famed chef and TV-personality Anthony Bourdain tragically took his own life.

In response, chefs around the world declared June 25 'Anthony Bourdain Day,' and here in Louisville, "A Taste for Life" was born.

The goal is to offer support for local restaurants and the community to raise awareness about mental health.

This Sunday, 45 chefs will be serving up some new and popular items on their menus.

Tickets are $50 and all proceeds will go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Louisville and the Pete Foundation.

Four Pegs' owner Chris Williams said this event helps the restaurant community come together.

"In the restaurant industry it's very high stress, you know, there is a constant stride for perfection," he said. "It's hot, you know, we are working in close quarters and there is a lot of friendly yelling if we are trying to get things done, and, you know, we don't always talk about how we are feeling. And so this event was more so to take a minute and say 'hey maybe we are struggling with some stuff. Let's talk about it. Lets have a conversation, so let's not let that be a stigma. It's normal let's deal with it.'"

Williams, along with chefs Kahlil Kennedy, Eric Morris, and Lee Mayfieldis co-created the event according to the NALI Louisville's website.

The event goes from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Four Pegs. Goss Avenue from Spratt Street to George Hauck Way will be closed off for the event.
