After 92 years, Ale-8-One will release a new spin on its beloved soda

(Cincinnati.com) - This is definitely a cherry-on-top situation.

After almost 100 years of business, Ale-8-One will release a cherry version of their Kentucky soda, according to a Facebook post.

Founded in 1926, this is the first time the Winchester-based company has introduced a twist on its ginger and citrus ale. (We aren't counting the diet versions of the soda.)

Ale-8, we call it, has earned a somewhat cult following around these parts.

Partly because folks think it's secret, the spicey formula is the best, of course. But also because you can't find the green bottles anywhere in the states. (You can order online, though.)

And Ale-8-One is a source pride: It's the only soft drink invented in Kentucky that is still in existence, the website says.

Cherry Ale-8 will debut in soda fountains Friday in five convenience store locations around Winchester and the Red River Gorge, a news release says.

On the hunt? Fans can follow Ale-8-One’s social media pages for locations, dates and times.

Later on this spring, Cherry Ale-8 will be offered in more soda fountain machines, single-serve bottles and six-packs in select stores, which includes Lexington, Frankfort, Richmond, Winchester, Bowling Green, Owensboro and Elizabethtown. (You can snag a six-pack for $3.49.)

Cherry Ale-8 will also be available on the website.
