LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Years after Mellow Mushroom Pizza left their unique building on Bardstown Road, a new owner has taken charge.
At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Beyond The Sun Restaurant and Lounge will be open to the public.
Anna Medina does public relations for the lounge, and she said the owner worked his way up from serving at Sol Aztecas for seven years.
"We love Bardstown Road," she said. "We would go out, walk down the street, and we always saw this building and saw the potential in it and we always wondered why it was closed being so different and so contemporary."
The new business wants to lean into their lounge status with live music and cocktails, and Medina hoped it brings different kinds of people to Bardstown Road.
"When we came inside the first time, we fell in love with the place," she said. "We had a vision for what the decoration would be, what the food would be. We wanted international and so it all came true, it all started with a dream."
In 2018, Mellow Mushroom left the building abruptly.
Since then, no business has taken over the unique building.
