The Comfy Cow is closing one of its Louisville shops after 10 years

“We have been looking for a relocation opportunity to downsize for some time."

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Comfy Cow is closing one of its Louisville shops after 10 years in business.

In a news release on their website, the Louisville-based ice cream shop said it was closing its location at 2221 Frankfort Avenue in the Clifton neighborhood.

“We have been looking for a relocation opportunity to downsize for some time. It’s a great building, but 5,000 square feet is more than we need for just a retail scoop shop,” owner Chip Hamm said.

In 2013, the company restored a dilapidated Queen Anne house and constructed a commissary kitchen and retail space on the former Genny’s Diner site.

“Obviously, we love the neighborhood. We have been part of the revitalization of Clifton and are actively looking for a relocation site, something smaller for just retail,” Hamm said.

In January 2021, the company announced that it was moving its headquarters and production from the Frankfort Avenue location.

“When we opened this building in 2013, we had two, going on three stores. Now, we have five stores, logistics for catering and events, and fulfillment of our online delivery," Hamm said. "It’s just a different business than the space was designed for.”

Other locations of the Comfy Cow include 339 Cardinal Boulevard, 1301 Herr Lane, 13301 Shelbyville Road, and 4005 Summit Plaza Drive.

“We plan to blow it out. It’s been a great space with a great landlord partner," Hamm said. "Ultimately, we’re looking forward to opening a new space in the neighborhood; but for now, we want to celebrate this location."

The Comfy Cow's Frankfort Avenue location's last day open is Sunday, Nov. 5.
