LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – With the weather as hot as it is, there's no better way to cool off than with some ice cream and one shop in Germantown is offering it up for free if you're a kid says the pledge of allegiance.
On the 4th of July, any child 12 and under who stops by Dairy Del, located on South Shelby Street, and recites the pledge of allegiance will get a free cone.
Owner Wayne Madison said this is the sixth year for the free cones and thousands of kids have stopped by in that time.
He said there's one part he enjoys the most.
“Watching the kids, it's pretty cool. I mean the kids as young as three years up and the 3-year-old is trying to recite the pledge and trying to remember it, it's kind of hard for some of them,” Wayne Madison, the owner of Dairy Del, said. “It's just fun, it's fun.”
Madison said he expects around 1,000 people to stop by for the holiday. They'll be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on July 4.
