LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two refugee families new to the United States now have the ability to travel at their own convenience.
Tuesday morning, Catholic Charities of Louisville helped give each family a car, donated by the community.
The organization told WHAS11 News both families migrated to America less than a year ago.
According to its Migration and Refugee Services program, they help as many as 700 refugee families annually.
A Catholic Charities spokesperson said it's the support from the community that can make a major difference in helping these families begin their new lives in the United States.
"Families need these types of support," Layne Sanders with the nonprofit said. "The bus system can be inconvenient sometimes because of where they maybe need to go for work. Sometimes it's out of town or not convenient along the bus route so having a car really gives them the ability to provide for their families, settle in here in the United States, and make a life for themselves and their family."
To make a donation, the organization has a list of the ways you can give both through money and other items. You can make the donation through this link.
