LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Salvation Army received a $1,300 gift with just two days left in the 2018 Red Kettle season.
With a $65,000 deficit left toward their $565,000 goal, The Salvation Army received a one-ounce gold coin estimated to be valued at nearly $1,300, was found in a Red Kettle.
Area Commander, Major Roy Williams says the coin was pulled from a kettle at the Bashford Manor Walmart store, the third straight year an anonymous donor has given a gold coin.
“It’s something we think about every year when the campaign begins; because in many ways it’s become part of the Red Kettle tradition," Williams said "It doesn’t happen often in Louisville, but when it does, it’s a true blessing, especially with the campaign set to end on Monday.”
People can still give to Red Kettles at more than 80 locations around metro Louisville through December 24th .
