LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thanks to a simple request and some Facebook magic, Louisville Metro Police's Mounted Patrol made this avid horse lover's day.

According to LMPD's social media, two members of the Mounted Patrol visited a Vietnam Veteran, Dave, in the Germantown area on Thursday.

Dave is battling cancer, and when he was younger, his family had a horse. While he wanted to ride just one more time, the doctors had told him and his family it wasn't possible.

Dave's wife, Mary Joe, had messaged LMPD after seeing a post about one of their horses, Justice, "smiling" into the weekend.

Mary Joe had asked if Justice could swing by the house so Dave could say hi. And the commander of the Mounted Patrol said yes.

Dave met both Justice and Sonny, as well as their riders, Sgt. Savage and Officer Lietz.

"Needless to say he was a little speechless when he saw the Officers riding up to the front of his home," LMPD said. "Mary Joe and Dave were so wonderful to meet and they truly filled with joy just to be around horses again."
