LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville elementary age athlete is already setting records in Kentucky.

Eriane Richie, 8, began running when she was just 5 years old, and trained with coach Dejuan Hobbs according to the mayor's office.

She earned two Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards at age 6, and she got second place in state competitions when she was 7 years old.

The third grader has since gone undefeated in state races and set records in the 100m and 200m before going on to become the 100m champion in the Junior Olympics.

"I got this medal from the Junior Olympics in the 100 meter dash," Eriane said during a news conference on Tuesday. "I'm happy to bring it back to my city."

Mayor Craig Greenberg has named Aug. 27, 2024 as "Eriane Richie Day" in Louisville to celebrate the young athlete and her accomplishments.

“Eriane’s rise from a beginner to a champion demonstrates the power of hard work and family support," Hobbs said. "Her success makes us all proud.”
