Louisville cat cafe breaks national record: More than 10,000 cats adopted

The milestone achievement comes just days after Purrfect Day Cafe celebrated its sixth anniversary.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A cate cafe in the Highlands broke a national record just days after celebrating its sixth anniversary.

Purrfect Day Cafe, located on Bardstown Road, celebrated its 10,000th adoption on Aug. 11. Its the first cat cafe in the United States to reach the significant milestone, officials said.

The 10,000th cat's adopters were Riley and Allen Truong, officials shared.

Purrfect Day, a unique adoption center that's also a cafe/bar, opened on Aug. 8, 2018. In a partnership with the Kentucky Humane Society, the cafe adopts out cats who would have otherwise been in a shelter or homeless.

KHS provides cats and kittens that have been microchipped, spayed/neutered, and vaccinated and the cafe serves as a foster facility.

"The cafe's unique foster-based model offers a novel approach to cat adoption," officials said. "[The cafe creates] an inviting space for potential adopters to meet felines in a relaxed space."
