Louisville native Sophia Crowder crowned Miss Black Kentucky USA

The pageant that aims to redefine beauty, crowned the winner in front of an audience at the Women's Club of Louisville Sunday evening.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A new winner has been crowned Miss Black Kentucky USA.

Louisville native Sophia Crowder competed and won the title in front of family and friends during the ceremony held at the Women’s Club of Louisville on Sunday.

“Contestants had a great opportunity to showcase their talents and be their authentic selves. I found twenty wonderful ladies who worked hard to get to this point. When they walked across the stage I, along with family and friends felt a sense of pride,” Dr. Ashley Anderson, executive director, said. “It’s more than winning a crown and a title but it begins a service of volunteerism, scholarship, and pride of who you are. This was a special evening for us all and I can’t wait to see what the royal court will do today and beyond.”

Helena Gordon and Ciara Johnson were also winners in the "Talented Teen" and "Ms." divisions.

All three will have the chance to compete nationally at the Miss Black USA pageant in 2024.

Ariel Thompson of Louisville took home the national title earlier this year.
