AT&T, union reach deal to end 30-day strike in southeast

Union members will report to work for their scheduled shifts on Sept. 16.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The strike against AT&T has come to an end after a deal was reached between the telecommunications giant and the Communications Workers of America.

According to the CWA, the agreement in the Southeast ends a 30-day strike which is the longest in the region’s history.

Union members had been striking over unfair labor practices by AT&T

Those members will report to work for their scheduled shifts on Sept. 16.

"We are incredibly proud of our members and thank CWA members, retirees and allies across the country for the solidarity that has sustained us through these difficult negotiations. Their willingness to make sacrifices in order to win major improvements in their contract not just for themselves, but for future members is truly inspiring,” CWA District 3 Vice President Richard Honeycutt said.

The new contract for workers in Kentucky and eight other states includes a 19.33% wage increase, with an additional 3% increase for wire technicians and utility operations.

The CWA said healthcare premiums will remain steady in the first year and will gradually lower in the second and third year, with “modest monthly increases in the final two years.”

Overall, Honeycutt said customers have faced hardships during the strike and they are happy to get back to work to keep communities safe and connected.

The contract will go to the local union for a vote in the coming weeks.
