Big Lots is closing these five Kentucky locations due to bankruptcy

One of the stores shutting its doors is located in Louisville.
The Columbus-based retail company added 46 more locations to the list of stores that are set to close in the near future.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Big Lots announced it will close nearly 50 additional stores in the coming weeks after already closing over 300 stores nationwide.

The Ohio-based retail company added 46 more locations to the list of stores set to close in the near future. At least five locations set to close are located in Kentucky.

As of Tuesday, Oct. 8, the company's website indicated that the following stores will close:

  • 1321 Second St., Henderson.
  • 1980 Pavilion Way, Lexington.
  • 4025 Poplar Level Road, Unit 102, Louisville.
  • 2601 Fort Campbell Boulevard, Hopkinsville.
  • 180 Madison Square Drive, Madisonville.

There are four other Big Lots in Louisville that appear to be remaining open:

  • 4121 Shelbyville Road, Louisville.
  • 5518 New Cut Road, Louisville.
  • 6650 Dixie Hwy., Louisville.
  • 5252 Bardstown Road, Louisville.

Big Lots reported a net loss of $205 million in the quarter ending May 4, 2024.

President and CEO Bruce Thorn stated that the company's sales had taken a hit "due largely to a continued pullback in consumer spending by our core customers, particularly in high ticket discretionary items."

The additional store closures come after Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September. The company plans to sell its assets and ongoing business operations to a private equity firm.
