LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The world's largest producer of home appliances is expanding its operations in Louisville in a big way.

Hollenbach Oakley announced Monday it plans to grow Midea America's footprint at its facility in Blankenbaker Station nearly fivefold. The project is expected to create 110 new jobs.

Louisville-based commercial real estate firm Hollenback Oakley was awarded the project management agreement. Midea America, based in New Jersey, has a research and development center in Louisville.

“We couldn’t be more excited to finalize this agreement with Midea America,” said John Hollenbach, managing partner of Hollenbach Oakley. “Midea is an incredible company that has already had great success at Blankenbaker Station. We can’t wait to get started on this massive new facility."

Plans call for Midea to invest $35.6 million to expand its office and lab space at the 600-acre "Class A" business park. The expanded facility will be located at 2700 Chestnut Station Court, which is part of the Phase III Blankenbaker Station project.

“We are thrilled to expand our presence and our U.S. R&D capabilities in Louisville,” said John Herrington, president of Midea America Corp. “This new facility emphasizes our commitment to growth and innovation in the United States. With the additional space, we will continue to bring innovative products to market that meet our consumers' needs. We look forward to further investing in this community and creating new job opportunities.”

Design plans are already in place, according to a news release from Hollenbach Oakley. Groundbreaking is scheduled for late 2024.

“Midea America continues to grow, and we’re so happy they’ve doubled down on their decision to do that right here at Blankenbaker Station,” said Greg Oakley, managing partner of Hollenbach Oakley. “Companies across the world are taking notice of everything Louisville has to offer, and this new facility is yet another example of the unquestionable appeal of our great city.”

Midea America is a Fortune 500 company and the world's largest producer of home appliances. The company manufactures a variety of products, including refrigerators, window air conditioners, washers and driers.

“We are committed to fostering a thriving business environment that supports both new and existing companies," said Pat Mulloy, Louisville deputy mayor for economic development. "This significant investment not only underscores Midea’s confidence in our city’s economy but also brings new jobs to our community and highlights our city’s leadership in manufacturing.”

The company posted revenue of about $372 billion yuan in 2023, or about $51 billion in U.S. dollars.
