Retail stores are closing or changing the way they do business because of the coronavirus pandemic. The ray of sunshine in the madness is a big need for basic essentials like food, cleaning products and more, which has led to a hiring blitz.
Here's a list of companies who shared information that they're hiring in Kentucky and across the country.
Kroger - 500 positions
Kroger will be hiring over 500 people for part-time positions at Kroger and Jay C Stores across Kentucky, Southern Indiana and Southern Illinois.
The company has experienced “unprecedented levels of business” during the coronavirus pandemic. They have sped up the hiring process so candidates can begin working quickly. Those interested in applying should visit here.
Walmart - 150,000 positions
Walmart announced they're hiring for 150,000 positions through the end of May. Those positions include store associates and workers in distribution and fulfillment centers. They'll be temporary positions at first, but many will lead to full-time roles.
Walmart says they're reaching out to restaurant and hospitality groups for workers who can take advantage of the opportunity if their current roles have been affected.
Domino's - 620 positions
Domino's franchise-owned locations are looking to hire about 620 new team members across more than 40 stores throughout Greater Louisville.
The positions include delivery drivers, customer service representatives, assistant managers and managers.
Amazon - 100,000 positions
Amazon is ramping up hiring as the coronavirus pandemic continues. The company announced 100,000 full and part-time positions to keep up with orders, and thousands of those jobs will be coming to our area.
In Indiana, you can expect to see 2,000 jobs, and in Kentucky 1,500. The pay rate will also increase by $2 an hour through April.
Save A Lot over 1,000 positions
Save A Lot plans to hire over 1,000 employees to immediately fill jobs throughout the country.
The grocer said recently displaced workers or those who have been temporarily laid off due to the coronavirus pandemic are encouraged to apply. Workers could start the same or next day.
Papa John's - 20,000 positions
Papa John's is planning on hiring up to 20,000 new restaurant team members nationwide. The company said it's focused on protecting its team members and customers by implementing additional health and safety precautions.

CVS - 50,000 positions
CVS Health is working to hire 50,000 full-time, part-time and temporary roles across the country as soon as possible. These positions include store associates, prescription delivery drivers, and distribution center employees.
CVS is also working with companies like Hilton and Marriott to fill these positions with employees who were let go from other jobs. You can search for jobs here.
Dollar General- 50,000 positions
Dollar General is planning to double its normal hiring rate and add up to 50,000 employees by the end of April as it continues to diligently work to support customers’ needs.

- Social security number
- Dates of employment
- Your employer’s information.
How do I apply?
Kentucky
Kentucky Career Center - kcc.ky.gov
You can apply for unemployment benefits through the Kentucky Career Center by calling 502-875-0442. Office hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. You can also call toll-free 800-648-6057 for telecommunications relay service.
You can also apply online. Website hours are Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. You will be given an online form and the website will walk you through the process. Make sure you answer all of the required questions so your claim will go through properly.
Indiana
Indiana Department of Workforce Development - in.gov/dwd
All Indiana unemployment insurance applications must be filled out online, either on a computer or smartphone. You can find the application here.
The Indiana DWD has 12 Workforce Regions throughout the state, according to Gov. Holcomb. At least one WorkOne is open in each region, except Marion County. DWD is working with that local WorkOne to ensure unemployment insurance claimants who need access to a computer have that access.
The DWD office in the Indiana Government Center South in Marion County is open from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and has computers available for use.
