LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A space in West Louisville is helping keep small businesses alive, and a federal grant awarded Tuesday will allow them to expand even further.
The West Louisville’s Chef Space invites chefs and entrepreneurs to the Russell neighborhood.
Congressman John Yarmuth visited the space Tuesday, and gave them $330,000 in federal funding.
Chef Space has successfully graduated over 65 businesses, all of them food-related. They have also had 12 businesses graduate to their own brick-and-mortar stores.
President of Chef Space Tom Murro explained why this program works to WHAS11 News back in February.
“It’s a little more of a safe option, than throwing $3,000 down on a lease before you know you have a viable concept,” he said in February.
Some of Louisville's restaurants like V-Grits, Kentucky Taco Company, Open Caribbean Kitchen and Philly’s Best are all graduates of Chef Space.
With this grant money they can expand to help even more entrepreneurs.
