LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The home of the Kentucky Derby and one of the foremost cities for bourbon was just ranked one of the cheapest U.S. cities for a night on the town.
Louisville, Kentucky, was named the fourth-most affordable city for a night out in America, according to research from QRFY.
Experts analyzed various factors including taxi fares, the price of beer and cocktails, and the cost of a combo meal at a fast food restaurant to rank the nightlife of the 50 most populous cities in the United States.
Louisville was found to have some of the cheapest taxi fares, averaging $1.40 per kilometer. Combo meals were also low, costing consumers about $9 on average.
Those low prices offset alcohol, which is relatively more expensive among the other cities on this list. A cocktail was found to cost $10 in Louisville, while a pint of beer will set you back $5.23.
The U.S. city with the cheapest nightlife was Memphis, Tennessee, according to the study. This is largely due to the city being home to some of the least-expensive cab fare ($1.37 per kilometer) and beer prices ($4.43 per pint) in the country.
Unsurprisingly, New York City was ranked the most expensive city in the U.S. for a night out. In the Big Apple, a taxi ride will cost $2.17 per kilometer, and it only gets pricier when you get downtown. A pint of beer costs $10, a combo meal costs $13, and a single cocktail will set you back by an eye-watering $21.
“Big city lights don't have to mean big city prices," Marc Porcar, CEO of QRFY, said. “Whether you're on a tight budget or simply looking to stretch your dollar further, this ranking empowers you to find the perfect city for a fun and affordable night out."
