Publix breaks ground at first Louisville location, announces Lexington site

Publix broke ground at their first Louisville location at the northwest corner of Terra Crossing Boulevard and Old Henry Road Thursday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A new grocery store is officially headed to Louisville.

Publix broke ground at their first Louisville location at the northwest corner of Terra Crossing Boulevard and Old Henry Road Thursday.

The location is supposed to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2023 according to a press release. There will be a drive-thru Publix Pharmacy and Publix Liquors at this location.

"One of the things you have to love about Publix, is when you begin working there you have the opportunity to become an owner in the company," said Mayor Greg Fischer. "If you're successful, the company's successful, and your wealth grows as well."

There will be three locations total: two in Louisville and one in Lexington according to the release.

The second location in Louisville will be at Ballardsville Road and Brownsboro Road and is expected to open in 2024. Publix just announced it's Lexington location Thursday.

This is the eighth state that Publix will operate in.

“It’s an exciting day for Publix Super Markets as we break ground in our eighth state,” said Publix CEO Todd Jones. “When our founder, George Jenkins, opened the first Publix store, he wanted to create a better grocery store — one that kept associates and customers top of mind."
