'Becoming an EMT is a great choice': Louisville hopes to hire next class of EMTs with new incentive

The city will offer participants $8,000 in installments once certified.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Heads up to all those wanting to get into the medical field.

According to a news release, Louisville Metro Emergency Services (LMEMS) is looking for the next group to join the Emergency Medical Technicians.

“This academy will provide new recruits with the hands-on training needed to address any medical emergency in the community and provide excellence in pre-hospital medical care. If you’re ready to make a positive impact on someone’s life and their family, becoming an EMT is a great choice,” LMEMS Chief Jesse Yarbrough said.

Recruits will be selected after a four-month, paid training class. Recruits will receive $15.91 an hour during the training, and once full-employed, employees will start getting $18.34 an hour.

The city will also offer participants $8,000 in installments once certified according to the release.

The hiring process includes: information session, written testing, physical testing, panel interview and medical exam.

All applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver's license, a high school diploma or equivalent, not been convicted of a felony and must pass both a pre-employment drug screening and polygraph test according to the release.
