LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky man who went to run an errand for his mother came back a whole lot richer.

While out on the recent errand, Christopher Knopp decided to buy the $5 Cash Eruption Scratch-off ticket from the Five Star on Main Street in Lebanon.

Knopp saw the person in front of him buy the same ticket and told the person they were "lucky", so he decided to purchase the same one. After he scratched the barcode, he scanned it and saw the message that pops up when a large prize is won.

Once Knopp confirmed that it was a large win, he found out he won $75,000 -- which was the game's top prize!

“This is unbelievable!” he said.

Knopp told lottery officials that he believes karma may have had something to do with his win. He previously won $20 on a Bingo Scratch-off ticket and gave it to someone who was having trouble at an ATM.

“I told him to just pay me back if he could,” he said.

With that returned $20, Knopp purchased his winning Scratch-off ticket.

“My Granddad always told me to do right by people,” he said.

Knopp said he told his mother, wife and friend who are still in disbelief.

“(My wife) worries about me, she says I give too much,” he said. “I’m very optimistic, and I just knew things were going to work out."

Knopp told officials this win came at the perfect time because they've had some tough times these last few months.

Knopp received a check for $53,625 after taxes, and he said he plans to purchase a house and pay off debt with the winnings.

“This is like a weight lifted off my shoulders,” he said.

Lottery officials said Five Star will receive $750 for selling the winning ticket.
