LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Campbellsville man is celebrating his birthday a month early after he won $50,000 on a Kentucky Lottery Scratch-off ticket.
Robert Fisher stopped at Prayosha Food Mart on Old Lebanon Road in Campbellsville Friday morning when he purchased the $5 Cash Plus ticket.
While in the store, Fisher scratched the ticket off, discovering his ticket matched the number 19, winning the game’s $50,000 top prize.
“I looked three or four times and I’m saying, that can’t be right. My heart skipped about two beats… I read the front and the back to make sure,” he said.
Fisher left the store and drove to Walmart, where he knows a clerk that works there.
“I threw the ticket down on the counter and said, ‘Can you cash this for me?’ She said, ‘Well, I don’t know, but I’ll try.’ I started laughing. When she came back around, she said, ‘Good lord, where did you get that at?’”
Since the prize on the ticket was too much for a store to pay, Fisher called his daughter, who then called her son to help him in getting it cashed.
“My mother is known for pulling pranks, so when they called, I thought it was just another prank,” his grandson told officials. “They were like, ‘No, for real, this really happened.’”
Fisher’s grandson quickly moved some things around on his schedule and they made their way to Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville that afternoon.
After taxes, Fisher received a check for $35,750.
“My birthday is a month away, so I’m going to call this an early birthday present,” Fisher said, laughing.
Prayosha Food Mart will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
