LG&E customers to save money on gas over next 3 months; Here's why

“Lower natural gas prices go a long way in helping us provide energy at the lowest reasonable costs,” Customer Services Vice President Eileen Saunders said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Ready your wallets Louisville as you'll be able to save money on your gas utility for three months.

According to a news release, from Feb. 1 to April 30, 2024, a customer with an average natural gas usage of 6,000 cubic feet per month can expect to pay about $68.70 monthly. That's down from last year's average price, $93.52.

That's because the Louisville Gas and Electric (LG&E) Company will pass their wholesale natural gas savings on to their customers.

“Lower natural gas prices go a long way in helping us provide energy at the lowest reasonable costs,” Customer Services Vice President Eileen Saunders said. “This is especially important now because cold temperatures result in increased energy use, which, unfortunately, often gets reflected in higher bills for many of our customers.”

However, due to this year's cold weather, customers might see higher-than-normal bills; the first 28 days of 2024 was 49% colder than January 2023, and about 4% colder than normal according to the release. During an extended period of cold weather, heating systems work harder to maintain temperatures.
